Our Curriculum

More and more young people have either fallen behind with their education or do not attend; the struggle following the global pandemic has definitely made it a challenging time for our youngsters as well as families and whilst it is in our best interest to ensure that our learners eventually make that transition back into formal education for some of our learners this may not be the case.

With this in mind our educational packages are tailored to meet the needs and challenges some of our youngster’s face. Each young person will have an allocated Teacher or Mentor or sometimes both where necessary, our teacher’s and mentors are carefully selected and matched with a young person who we believe is suited for that child. Each session will incorporate practical elements to involve the student as well as build on his or her confidence self esteem and communication skills. Both our Teachers and Mentors do an excellent job at meeting the social & emotional needs of each student as well as providing the academic elements and promoting life skills for each learner.

Support

Whilst our aim is to Educate each child and ensure they get a well-balanced curriculum that meets their needs this can not be done in isolation of the families and other external professionals who may work with the child too. Some of our young people may have a therapeutic input on their EHCP (Educational Health Care Plan) or by their Local Authority. We can offer further support through our specialist team that is tailored to have a positive impact on the child or young person’s holistic and social emotional development.

We also understand that our families maybe under a lot of pressure and stress from managing their family and just trying to survive and meet the basic needs for their children and themselves and with this in mind our Mentors do an excellent job at identifying what further support might be needed for the family, carefully liaising and building trusting rapports and relationships with our families so they feel safe and secure and open to share ideas and suggestions that will bring better outcomes for their child and family. Our parent/carers know their children better than us so our ongoing partnership with our parent/carers from Mentor to Teacher & our specialist team is crucial.

Our specialist team is made up of:

“Progress and development occurs when children show high levels of involvement and it is during this time that their brain is at its most active. High level involvement occurs most often when children are able to pursue their own interests in an enabling environment supported by skilled educators.”
